Sheffield Wednesday striker Chris Maguire has hailed the contribution of goalkeeper Keiren Westwood this season.

Westwood, a free summer signing following his release by Sunderland, turned in another man-of-the-match display in Saturday's derby draw at Leeds, denying the home side with a series of outstanding saves.

The 29-year-old, Wednesday's player of the month for September, has been instrumental in the club's encouraging start to the season, which has left them a point off the top six in ninth place before the international break.

"It's not just this game, he's kept us in it in five or six games over the course of the season, making valuable saves at the right time," said Maguire, who opened the scoring at Elland Road before Giuseppe Bellusci's 79th-minute equaliser.

"He's been a great addition to the team and we were unlucky not to win the game because he would have deserved to be on the winning side.

"He's up there with the best that I've worked with, but Chris Kirkland is a great keeper as well, so it's great for competition and it's a hard one for the manager."
