Wilson: Wary of overconfidence

Sky Bet

Sheffield United boss Danny Wilson won't rule city rivals Wednesday out of the automatic promotion race ahead of Sunday's derby.

The Blades make the three-mile journey along the A61 to Hillsborough five points ahead of the Owls with two games in hand and with a place in the top two seemingly theirs to lose.

But Wilson, who used to manage Wednesday, would not feel assured of the second automatic place even if they were to open up an eight-point gap over Gary Megson's side at S6 on Sunday.

When asked if defeat would end Wednesday's hopes, he said: "Absolutely not at all. There are too many points to play for and it's like the cricketers and the nervous nineties, anything can happen.

"You can't write anyone off, no matter what the result is on Sunday it won't change anything. The two games in hand mean nothing. With that many points at stake you wouldn't expect me to say it is over."
