Sky Blues hoping to extend teenage midfielder's loan deal

Andy Thorn is hoping Coventry can thrash out a deal that will see Gary Gardner remain at the club past the end of his current loan agreement. The 19-year-old has been sent to the Ricoh Arena by parent employers Aston Villa to pick up valuable experience. He has made quite an impression on the Championship side, and netted on his debut for the Sky Blues in their 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday. Thorn is delighted with how the young midfielder has settled into his squad and admits he is already exploring the possibility of keeping Gardner well into the New Year.

Quality

"He's got some quality, there is no question about that and we want to keep him," he told the Coventry Telegraph. "We just hope that we can make the boy feel welcome and that Villa sign more midfield players in January. "We will look after him and he's enjoying himself and long may that continue. "He's fitted in with the group and the boys like what they see. They are all talking about him and it has given everyone a lift."
