Clinton Morrison has apologised to Sheffield Wednesday's fans for his form last year and vowed to repay the faith they have shown in him.
The striker came off the bench on Monday against Charlton to net an equaliser, his first league goal since February.
He acknowledged his performances were below par last year and told the Sheffield Star: "First and foremost, last season I was nowhere near up to scratch. I didn't have a pre-season at all. I wasn't doing the business and didn't deserve to play. I accept that.
"This season I think I've come in and worked hard.
"I'm enjoying it here, I want to be a success. The fans have stuck with me. They could easily have turned on me before. I think now I've got my fitness back you can see it in my general play. I'm well happy as a person. My head's right - it wasn't last season.
"I let down a lot of fans, myself and my family. Hopefully this year I can get my head right and keep it going."
