Blackburn v Sheff Wed reaction

Image: Rochina: Scored twice

Blackburn boss Steve Kean hailed Ruben Rochina after the young Spanish midfielder's double sunk Sheffield Wednesday in the Carling Cup.

Rochina scored twice in the first four minutes at Ewood Park on Wednesday night and David Goodwillie added a third four minutes later as Rovers eased into the third round with a 3-1 win. Kean said: "I see Ruben every day and I know the quality he's got. Tonight we had a glimpse of what we've got for the future. His play tonight was exceptional." He added: "We wanted to start the game with a tempo that was good and we knew if we did it would cause them problems. We put ourselves in a comfortable position early on." Kean confirmed there have been plenty of developments in the transfer market with Brett Emerton in talks to go back to Australia and Simon Vukcevic and George John both arriving. Kean said: "With Brett, there has been interest from his hometown club and we have had a bit of dialogue. If Brett does move it will be a family decision, not a football decision. "If Brett decides it's something he'd like to explore, you've got to give respect for the service he's given the club. If we do lose him, it will be very, very sad." Kean confirmed Vukcevic had picked up his work visa and would now join the squad, while John had his Greek passport and was due to have his medical on Thursday. Kean said he was also due to continue talks over a third player. He added: "I met a player last night with permission from his club. But there is some medical and contractual stuff to do." Wednesday boss Gary Megson slammed his side's "shocking" start to the game and insisted their second-half revival, which saw Clinton Morrison pull one back five minutes after the restart, provided scant consolation. Megson said: "I think we kicked off at about ten past eight. Our defending was shocking for the first goal and we were shell-shocked and didn't show a great deal of common sense. "We spoke at half-time about forgetting the actual score and making sure we showed a bit of pride and played something like we can, which I thought we did. "The players from that point onwards did all right. But it's not a case of redemption because that wouldn't be acceptable. There were individual positives but not as a team."
