Sheffield Wednesday manager Gary Megson wants to sign Portuguese midfielder Jose Semedo from Charlton.

The 26-year-old was named Charlton's player of the year last season but will soon be out of contract at The Valley. Megson has recommended Semedo to chairman Milan Mandaric and vice-chairman Paul Aldridge and is hopeful of landing his man. He told The Sheffield Star: "He is a good player. I'd like to do something with him, it's in the hands of Milan and Paul." Addicks boss Chris Powell wants to hang onto Semedo, but admitted recently: "Jose is in a strong position because like a lot of players who let their contracts run out, they are free to talk to who they want. "This is what he and his agent are doing at the moment, so we are quite powerless really because he is free to do as he chooses."
