Owls skipper in confident mood

Darren Purse is convinced Sheffield Wednesday remain on course for automatic promotion despite their setback at Exeter.

Wednesday could have gone top of npower League One on goal difference with victory at St James' Park, but crashed to a 5-1 defeat to stay in second place, three points behind leaders Brighton having played two games more than all their rivals. Purse said: "You can't dwell too much on it because we have a lot of games coming up over the Christmas period. "If you do dwell on a bad result it can affect you the next week and we all know how important the Christmas fixtures can prove to be. "We're still in a good position. The disappointing thing is that it could have been better. We have played a game or two more than the teams around us, but I'd still rather have the points on the board. "Teams who have games in hand have still got to win them and if we can pick up some points over this period, we could be in a really strong position going into the new year."
