David Prutton has signed for Colchester United until the end of the season after securing his release from Leeds United.
The 28-year-old joined the League One play-off contenders on loan last week and scored on his debut against MK Dons.
However, he was ineligible to face Leeds on Saturday before his departure from Elland Road was confirmed on Monday.
Prutton will now be back in Colchester manager Aidy Boothroyd's plans for Tuesday night's game against Carlisle United.
During his time at Leeds, Prutton made 76 appearances, scoring four goals, but he found first-team football hard to come by under current manager Simon Grayson.
