Cardiff City have fought off competition to land the double signings of Sheffield Wednesday striker Steven MacLean and Rangers midfielder Gavin Rae.

MacLean, who netted 32 times in 60 starts for Wednesday, makes the switch to Ninian Park as Bluebirds boss Dave Jones looks to bolster his attacking options.

The transfer of the out of contract forward confirms the fears of the Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws who had recently revealed he was concerned that MacLean would leave Hillsborough.

Midfielder Rae, made 24 starts while at Ibrox and his move brings to an end three and a half years with the Scottish side.

A statement on Cardiff's official website read: "Cardiff City can officially confirm the signings of Gavin Rae and Steve MacLean.

"The Bluebirds had to fight off stiff competition for the pair, and are delighted that they have agreed terms."
