Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws fears The Owls may lose striker Steven MacLean this summer.

The former Rangers striker is out of contract at Hillsborough but talks over extending his stay have hit a brick wall.

MacLean revealed his desire to remain with The Owls earlier this year, but a number of factors are holding up the parties agreeing fresh terms.

Not only are Rangers entitled to a £50,000 bonus should MacLean pen a new deal, but also his agent is also hoping to have a slice of the pie.

"Steve knows exactly how I feel," Laws told the Yorkshire Post. "But I have to admit that we have hit a bit of a stumbling block.

"One is his agent and his fee, the fee for Rangers, and on top of that is his wages.

"You accumulate them together and all of a sudden it's a hefty, hefty wage bill which I don't swallow too easily as that stops me bringing in other players.

"We are trying to talk to his agent to be sensible, and also talking to Rangers, but if that what scuppers the deal, that's what scuppers the deal."
