Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws has denied Oldham's request to extend Leon Clarke's loan spell.
The striker joined The Latics on a month-long deal on 1st March and has impressed manager John Sheridan over the last few weeks.
Sheridan was eager for Clarke to stay and help Oldham in their push for promotion, but he will now return to Hillsborough as scheduled after this weekend's clash with Yeovil.
Laws explained that his decision had been influenced by David Graham's loan move to Torquay, which came about after the player's breach of club discipline.
"Oldham want to keep Leon, but we said no, in view of the David Graham situation and the fact that the intention was for Leon to spend just a month with them," said Laws.
"I have also spoken to Leon. He's done well for Oldham, but we want him here for the long term."
