Andrew Talbot is set to join Scunthorpe on a one-month loan deal, but Brian Laws expects the striker to establish himself as a key player at Sheffield Wednesday when he returns to Hillsborough.
Talbot missed all of last season due to injury and has only made a couple of appearances this term, and Laws is keen for him to get some more games under his belt.
Laws also wants former club Scunthorpe to seal promotion from League One, and believes Talbot is the perfect player to aid their cause.
But Laws' main concern is making sure he sees the best of Talbot in a Wednesday shirt in the future.
"It gives us a chance to get him some match fitness because he hasn't played for a while," Laws told the club's official website.
"We need Drew to be firing on all cylinders because he will be an important part of my team.
"I can assure people we are not sending him out to get rid of him.
"We're sending him out to get fit and come back.
"I want to help Scunthorpe get promoted. Drew Talbot needs games and I think he would be ideal for them."
