New boss Brian Laws has confirmed Sheffield Wednesday are trying to tie youngster Tommy Spurr down at Hillsborough.
The 19-year-old defender was handed a one-year deal by Paul Sturrock in the summer, after making his senior debut against Reading in April.
Spurr has emerged as a regular for The Owls this term, however, featuring in 16 matches so far this season at left-back.
He turned in a man of the match display in the 2-1 win at Norwich City at the weekend and Laws now wants to reward the academy graduate with a new deal.
"I've agreed it with the chairman and we're looking to offer a new contract to Tommy," Laws told the club's website.
"He has done superbly well."
Wednesday will need all of their defensive line to be on their mettle, as they welcome league leaders Birmingham City to South Yorkshire on Saturday.
