Sheffield Wednesday failed in their attempts to sign goalkeeper Paul Jones.Sheffield Wednesday boss Paul Sturrock says he failed in his attempts to sign former Southampton and Wolves goalkeeper Paul Jones.
The Owls boss had been looking for a new custodian after losing the services of David Lucas for the rest of the season with a knee ligament injury.
Sturrock was aware of the availability of the Wales international after he terminated his contract with Wolves last month.
Despite the Scot's efforts, Jones opted to sign for Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers for the rest of the season.
"We did go in for Paul Jones, but were a bit too late," Sturrock told the club's official website.
"There is one other keeper I feel we've got a good chance of getting, but I think his club has had someone go down with flu, so he might be sitting on the bench for them now."
The situation means Sturrock will start youngster Chris Adamson in Saturday's home match against Crystal Palace, with youth trainee Ben Kirby set to be named on the substitutes' bench.
