Coughlan no to captaincy

Graham Coughlan says he will not retain the Sheffield Wednesday captaincy.

Sheffield Wednesday centre back Graham Coughlan says he will not retain the captain's armband at Hillsborough.

The 30-year-old was made Owls captain by manager Paul Sturrock when the Irishman returned to face former club Plymouth Argyle last Saturday.

Despite leading the South Yorkshire side out at Home Park, Coughlan insisted he has no interest in retaining the skipper's role.

"The boys made a nice gesture towards me and I appreciated that," Coughlan told the club's official website.

"But it's something I'm not interested in and the manager knows that.

"We've had many a chat about it - he still hasn't changed my mind and I don't think he will either.

"I was captain at Livingston for two years and I wasn't comfortable with it."
