Sheffield Wednesday boss Paul Sturrock has conceded that he has been impressed with a pair of trialists.

Liverpool winger Richie Partridge lined-up for the Championship new boys on Wednesday against Patrick Thistle and impressed with a lively display.

Partridge is on the lookout for regular first team football after being made surplus to requirements at Anfield and did his chances of earning a permanent switch to Wednesday no harm in midweek.

Joining Partridge on trial was former Arsenal full-back Frankie Simek - who also made a favourable impression on Sturrock.

''The boy Partridge had a very exciting first half,'' Sturrock told the club's official website.

''The right-back (Simek) was very competent tonight. I was very pleased with him.''

Whilst Partridge and Simek both proved their pedigree, Sturrock believes a third trialist - Zoltan Vasas - needs more time to adapt to the pace of English football.

''He hasn't trained with us much and found it difficult to find the tempo of the game,'' he concluded.
