Sheffield Wednesday have taken Scottish starlet Andrew Dowie on trial from Rangers.

The Scotland Under-21 international defender will train with The Owls squad in a bid to impress Hillsborough boss Chris Turner.

The 21-year-old is in the Scotland squad to face Denmark next week and could earn himself a move to Division Two should he impress Turner.

"Andrew Dowie has come down from Scotland to train with us, and a decision will be made soon," said Turner.

Turner is looking for a second signing after handing defender Chris Brunt a two-year deal after originally joining on trial from Middlesbrough.

"Chris is the sort of player we'll look to build the team around, and the sort we're trying to bring in," added Turner.

"The fans have already taken a liking to him. We're targeting young players at Premiership-class clubs who are not getting any leeway at those clubs, and we've had several lads here on trial over the last few weeks.

"Our academy director, Mike Rigg, played a part in Chris coming here, after having conversations with other academy directors about players who were going to be released at the end of their scholarships."
