Town beat Canaries to Kuqi

Ipswich Town beat off a late approach from local rivals Norwich City to complete the permanent signing of Shefki Kuqi from Sheffield Wednesday.

Norwich made a late move for the Finnish international as they look for a replacement for loan star Darren Huckerby when his spell from Manchester City ends next month.

Ipswich have been keen to keep the giant striker and have agreed a deal with Wednesday, which will see them receive a bonus payment should Town win promotion from the First Division and no fee involved in the transfer.

Kuqi has impressed on loan at Portman Road scoring four goals in 11 games since arriving on loan in September.

The paperwork is set to be completed on Friday and Town boss Joe Royle was delighted to have clinched Kuqi's signature.

"Shefki has done well for us since he arrived here and I am delighted that he has agreed to join the club on a permanent basis," said Royle.
