Kuqi joins Town

IPSWICH TOWN have enhanced their attacking armoury by bringing Shefki Kuqi to Portman Road in a three-month loan deal.

The Sheffield Wednesday striker has plenty of admirers in the Nationwide League, but Joe Royle has got his man, and the bruising centre forward should be available for selection ahead of Saturday's Division One clash with Watford.

"We were interested in signing Shefki in the summer," Royle told Ipswich's official website. "But Wednesday were looking for a big fee for him.

"That took us out of the equation but, with Sheffield now looking to relieve their wage bill, they have agreed to a loan deal.

"We are delighted to land Shefki.

"He is a big, powerful striker that will give us some presence in the box and help relieve the pressure we have on the squad with the injury problems we have."

Wednesday boss Chris Turner will be disappointed to lose last term's top scorer, but Town needed an experienced peformer to help turn around their season.

The Suffolk side were tipped to be one of the contenders for promotion, but are currently languishing in 19th place in the table.
