BARNSLEY moved top of Division Two following an excellent 2-0 away victory at Steve McMahon's Blackpool.

Gudjon Thordarson's side took the lead when Rory Fallon scored to give The Tykes a 1-0 advantage at the break and Chris Lumsdon sealed the points with a second six minutes after the interval.

Wrexham stayed level on points with the Oakwell club after coming from behind to defeat Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

The Owls took the lead through an Alan Quinn strike after two minutes but goals from Dennis Lawrence, Chris Llewellyn and Carlos Edwards gave The Dragons a 3-1 lead.

Paul Smith got a second for Wednesday but the away side took three big points at the pre-season promotion favourites.

Brighton & Hove Albion moved third following a 2-0 win over Luton Town, as a Chris Coyne own goal and a Charlie Oatway strike gave The Seagulls victory at The Withdean Stadium.

Luton had Steve Howard sent off for abusive language before manager Mike Newell was strangely sent from the touchline for a tackle on Brighton's Nathan Jones.

Port Vale drop from top spot following their first defeat of the season at Hartlepool United, going down 2-0 at Victoria Park. Paul Robinson and veteran Marco Gabbiadini grabbed the goals for Pools.

Queens Park Rangers wasted a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 at Rushden & Diamonds. Duane Darby put the home side in front before Gareth Ainsworth's spectacular brace and a third goal from Paul Furlong gave QPR a 3-1 lead at Nene Park.

However, Paul Hall's strike with eight minutes left set up Onandi Lowe's last-minute equaliser to give Brian Talbot's men a point.

Swindon Town were held to a 2-2 draw at Bournemouth. Tommy Mooney put The Robins in the lead before Shaun Maher made it 1-1.

Steve Robinson restored Swindon's lead but James Hayter's equaliser meant the spoils were shared at Dean Court.

Grimsby Town snatched goals from Darren Barnard, Michael Boulding and Marcel Cas to win 3-1 over Wycombe Wanderers at Blundell Park. Charlie Mapes hit a consolation for The Chairboys.

Andy Clarke`s goal gave Peterborough United a 1-0 win at Notts County, who had Paul Heffernan sent-off for a professional foul.

Stockport County drew 1-1 with Tranmere Rovers, despite going behind to a Eugene Dadi strike on half-time.

Luke Beckett dramatically equalised in the last minute and was sent off for his celebration by receiving a second yellow card for pulling his shirt off.

Chesterfield drew 1-1 with Plymouth Argyle at Saltergate. Chris Brandon put The Spireites into the lead before David Friio equalised for the visiting Pilgrims.

Brentford came from behind to defeat Oldham Athletic 2-1 at Griffin Park. Dean Holden put The Latics in front before Eddie Hutchinson and Tony Rougier scored goals for The Bees.

David Eyres missed a penalty to equalise for Iain Dowie's men.
