SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY have confirmed that striker Gerald Sibon is in talks with Dutch side Heerenveen over a move back to his native Holland.

The Owls received an approach from De Eredivisie club to talk to the 28-year-old and the hit-man has returned to Holland to hold talks with Heerenveen officials over a transfer window move to the Abe Lenstra Stadion.

The former Ajax man, who moved to Hillsborough for £2 million in the summer of 1999, has his contract with the South Yorkshire club expire at the end of the season.

Despite appearing and scoring in Wednesday's 3-2 turnaround victory over Reading on Saturday, Sibon looks set to end his three-and-a-half year career with The Owls by the end of the week.

Should the Dutchman complete a move home to Heerenveen, it will mean a major drop in the club's wage bill, with Sibon being Wednesday's top wage earner.

Meanwhile, Southampton's Garry Monk and Middlesbrough's Allan Johnston have extended their loan deals to stay with The Owls for another month.
