Izzet left kicking his heels

Colchester's Kem Izzet is frustrated again after the weather put paid to his chances of returning to action on Monday.

The midfielder has been sidelined with a hip injury since late September but returned to training last month and has been stepping up his rehabilitation. Izzet, 32, was due to play in last week's Essex Senior Cup tie against Brentwood before it fell foul of the weather, and was then included in the U's Under-21 side to face Charlton on Monday, only to see the clash postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at the Weston Homes Community Stadium. Izzet must now wait a little longer before he can get crucial minutes under his belt, much to the frustration of boss Joe Dunne. "I am very disappointed because we gave it the best possible chance," Dunne told the club's official website. "The referee who came in on Monday afternoon was very sensible about it. "At the time the pitch was wet but, with six hours of dry weather and work by the groundsman, we thought we would be okay. "We have been on the pitch on both occasions and although there are wet areas, I am a bit disappointed the game was off because I think if it had been a Saturday game, it may still have been on."
