Colchester boss John Ward has revealed that chairman Robbie Cowling will back him if he decides they need a new striker.
The U's are short of attacking options after Steven Gillespie sustained a hamstring strain in the 4-2 win over Notts County, leaving Kayode Odejayi as their only fit recognised striker.
Their ranks will be depleted further when winger Michail Antonio returns to Reading, completing his three-month loan spell after the game at Tranmere on Saturday.
"I've spoken to my chairman about it and he's given me the go-ahead to do something, should I wish," Ward told the Daily Gazette.
"But it has to be the right signing and Ian Henderson showed against Notts County that he is capable of playing in that kind of position, as is Ashley Vincent.
"But Michail goes back to Reading after our game at Tranmere on Saturday and that will leave us a little bit lighter."
