Colchester manager John Ward said his U's side deserved a point against Brentford after drawing 1-1 at Griffin Park.
Anthony Wordsworth's late, late leveller earned the Essex outfit a share of the spoils in Tuesday night's League One clash, and Ward believed it was just rewards for a thoroughly committed display.
"All the time they didn't get the second, we knew we were in with a chance of getting something out of the game and I was really pleased with our resilience," he said.
"We can look back on that as a point gained because Brentford did play some lovely football.
"When we got the free-kick, I was pleased that we had Anthony on the spot because we know that he's got that in his locker.
"He had good mentality to hit the target and it was a really well executed free-kick. We will take this and kick on from here because I felt we showed a lot of character."
