Colchester defenders Magnus Okuonghae and Brian Wilson are edging closer to fitness following long spells out.
Centre-half Okuonghae has been missing since November with an ankle injury while a similar problem has kept full-back Wilson out since December.
But both players have visited a specialist and were given the green light to step up their training.
"We are looking to start pushing Magnus on, he has been given a 10 to 14-day programme to see how he responds to training before we decide what to do next," said U's manager John Ward.
"Brian has been given the okay and, starting from Monday, we will be pushing him a lot harder in the next couple of weeks."
