Colchester duo John-Joe O'Toole and Morten Knudsen have edged closer to returning to action after playing in a practice match this week.
Midfielder O'Toole and defender Knudsen have been sidelined since last season with cruciate ligament injuries, but both got an hour under their belts in a behind-closed-doors clash.
"Our reserve game was called off so we had an in-house match which everyone was involved in," said manager John Ward.
"Morten and John-Joe played and it was great to see them back out with the kit on."
