David Wright was delighted to mark his return to the first team with the winner against Derby at the weekend to help claim Ipswich's first win of the season.
The defender has only recently returned to manager Roy Keane's plans after nearly a two-month exile training with the reserve and youth teams.
The 29-year-old was banished from the first team following the Tractor Boys' 2-1 Carling Cup defeat at Peterborough at the end of the August.
However, with Ipswich's form failing to improve in the former Wigan man's absence Keane recalled Wright for the 1-1 draw with Swansea earlier this month and has been involved in all three games since.
"It is the manager who picks the team, and I was not in it so I was disappointed," he said.
"I had to train with the reserves and with the youth team for a month, which is a long time, but I didn't see any point moping around.
"I just had to go away and get my head down. I didn't speak to him (Keane), I just had to work hard."
Rare goal
Wright was on hand to meet a cross from the right with a powerful 66th minute header to secure the Tractor Boys' first three points of the campaign but he admits that he perhaps should not have been that far forward in the first place.
"It was nice to score especially as I don't get that many," he added. "I'm not sure why I was up there but I decided to carry on my run.
"The manager is always telling us that if you go make sure you go all the way. Jon Walters slipped in behind, so I carried on and managed to get in on the end of the cross."
