Cumbrians spurn two apporaches for winger

Colchester have seen two bids for Simon Hackney rebuffed by League One rivals Carlisle. The Us initially enquired as to the possibility of taking the winger on a season-long loan. Having been informed that was not an option they then returned with a five-figure offer for the 25-year-old. That approach was also knocked back, with Carlisle's managing director John Nixon making it clear that boss Greg Abbott has no intention of parting with the player. "Colchester have now made two enquiries about Simon Hackney, but both have been turned down," Nixon told the club's official website. "He is clearly a player that they like, but we had no hesitation in turning the enquiries away."

Optimistic

Colchester boss Paul Lambert has already seen bids for Wycombe defender Mike Williamson and Hibs captain Rob Jones rejected during the January transfer window. Despite finding himself frustrated at every turn, the Scot remains optimistic that he will be able to add new recruits to his squad before 2nd February. "We have tried to get fresh faces in to give the lads here a bit of help," he said. Lambert is also set to allow Nigerian striker Sunday Wasiu to leave the club on loan. "Sunday might be going out on loan soon and we are waiting to here the details on that one," he added.
