Southend defender Adam Barrett has signed a new four-and-a-half year contract with the club.
Southend defender Adam Barrett has committed his future to the club by putting pen to paper on a new four-and-a-half year contract.
The popular centre-half, 28, was last week the subject of a £250,000 bid from long-time admirers Colchester, but the Shrimpers have now tied him to Roots Hall until 2012.
"I was flattered by Colchester's interest but I wanted to stay at Southend and I'm really happy to have sorted my future," he told the club's official website.
"There are great years ahead here and I am just coming into my prime so I was pleased the club value me enough to offer such a long deal."
