Colchester United captain Karl Duguid has branded reports he has asked for a transfer as 'lies'.

Speculation has claimed that Duguid wants to quit Layer Road following the recent signing of veteran striker Teddy Sheringham.

But the long-serving midfielder insists he is happy to stay with Colchester and is looking forward to playing alongside Sheringham.

"It's all lies," Duguid told the East Anglian Daily Times. "There's no way I'm leaving Colchester.

"It couldn't be further from the truth. I haven't asked for a transfer and it's of no concern to me how much Teddy Sheringham is being paid. I don't mind one little bit.

"I was a Tottenham fan as a youngster, so it will be a pleasure to be in the same side as Teddy."

Meanwhile, U's manager Geraint Williams aims to keep the unsettled Wayne Brown at the club by offering the defender a new contract.

Brown has demanded the chance to talk to Hull City, but Williams is hoping to persuade the player to stay at Layer Road.

Williams said: "The situation with Wayne is that we are talking to him about extending and improving his contract."
