Colchester have been successful in their bid to extend Cardiff defender Chris Barker's loan deal until the end of the season.
The 26-year-old was due to play his last game for the club against QPR on New Year's Day, but will now finish the season at Layer Road.
Barker insists he would have preferred a permanent move but was pleased to find out his contract had been extended.
He told the club's official website: "The manager spoke to me about a month ago about extending things and, from the off, I wanted to stay.
"Ideally it would have been a permanent move, but as things panned out, this couldn't be agreed as yet but I am more than happy to stay until the end of the season and reassess in June.
"I have really enjoyed being here and have got on well with everyone at the club."
