Williams praises hard work

Geraint Williams feels hard work has been the key to Colchester United's success this season.

After gaining promotion to the Championship, The U's were expected to struggle, but instead sit in 10th position.

Colchester boss Williams has been delighted with how his players have been performing and is aiming to continue the momentum with a win at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

"It's been hard work by everyone, the players principally, but the staff and everyone at the club," Williams told Sky Sports News.

"Allied with the hard work is that there is some ability there with the lads on the pitch.

"There are no easy games in this league, we know that, but we've been to Cardiff and got a good point.

"Palace had a great win (last week), but we are going down there looking for a win."

Young goalkeeper Dean Gerken, who provides the back-up to Aidan Davison, is enjoying the experience of Championship football.

Gerken said: "It's massive. We even went to places like Sunderland and Leicester - big Premiership teams - and places like that you just see on TV, and playing on it is quite a surreal thing."
