The Cobblers' boss John Gorman has failed in his bid to sign two strikers.
Northampton manager John Gorman failed in his bid to land the loan signings of strikers Hogan Ephraim and Leon Best last week.
The Cobblers boss, who recently secured the services of Birmingham winger Nick Wright on loan, revealed that he was beaten to the double signings by Colchester and Yeovil.
Colchester picked up West Ham's Ephraim, while Southampton striker Best preferred to join his best friend - Martin Craine - at Yeovil.
Gorman said: "We were close to signing Hogan but he wanted to go to The Championship and we were even closer with Leon, but his best mate is at Yeovil and the chance to go and play with him was a factor.
"The good thing is Leon was man enough to pick up the phone and explain the situation and that was appreciated.
"We did get another of our targets in Nick and I'm delighted with him. He's a good player, a big lad who has plenty of pace and he could be just the thing we've been missing over the last few weeks."
Northampton's match against Leyton Orient on Saturday, which was postponed due to a water logged pitch, has been rearranged for Tuesday December 19.
