Greg Halford has been backed to keep on starring for Colchester after missing out on a move away from Layer Road.
The versatile 21-year-old, who can also operate in midfield and up front, handed in a transfer request late last month.
There was a lot of interest from other Championship clubs but a large enough offer was not forthcoming, meaning that The U's will keep hold of him until January at least.
Colchester chief executive Marie Partner is happy to hang onto Halford, and is confident that he will continue to shine.
"Greg is only 21, he has a good future ahead of him and he was kept fully aware of the club's actions right up to deadline day," Partner explained.
"As a professional and an honest lad, I'm sure he will continue to work as hard for us as he has already shown this season, particularly in the last two games."
