Colchester scored a controversial 1-0 victory over Scunthorpe on Tuesday night.

The victory sees Phil Parkinson's men nose ahead of fierce Essex rivals Southend United at the summit of the League One table in a real nip-and-tuck race towards the title.

Chris Iwelumo grabbed the only goal of the game in first half stoppage time, but Scunthorpe's Richard Hinds was adamant that he had been fouled and claimed the goal should not have been awarded.

Iron keeper Tommy Evans had to be at his best to keep Colchester at bay, and he did well to push a Mark Yeates (pictured) shot wide prior to Iwelumo's opener.

Hinds almost equalised on 66 minutes but his effort flew high over the bar, and Jim Goodwin tested U's keeper Aidan Davison with a curling free-kick late on.
