U's in struggle for Danns

Neil Danns is unlikely to sign a new contract at Colchester United, skysports.com can reveal.

Neil Danns is unlikely to sign a new contract at Colchester United, skysports.com can reveal.

The 23-year-old is out of contract in the summer and the high-flying U's have attempted to tie Danns to a new deal.

However, with Premiership and Championship interest - Danns' future looks to be away from Layer Road.

The likes of Wigan, Sheffield United, Reading and Luton are all keen and Colchester are believed to have fielded bids already this month.

"We know several clubs are very interested in Neil," his advisor Tony Finnigan told skysports.com.

"We can confirm that Neil has rejected the offer of a new contract and is now considering his options.

"But as he proved on Tuesday night with his spectacular display - he is fully committed to Colchester and will always give 100 percent whilst he is there.

"I can also confirm that some of my former managers, including Steve Coppell, have shown a strong interest in Neil."

Danns, who joined Colchester last year from Blackburn, was the hero for the Essex outfit on Tuesday when he scored twice to lead his side to a 3-2 win over Bristol City - just 24 hours after the birth of his first child.

The Liverpudlian is understandably delighted with his week to date.

"It can't get any better for me the two goals felt so good, but nothing tops off that vision of my son being born and like I say it's the best 24 hours of my life," Danns told Sky Sports.
