Leyton Orient have won the race to sign former Colchester United midfielder Joey Keith.

The 26-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the League Two club, having turned down an offer from Bournemouth to make the switch to Brisbane Road.

Keith will fill the left side role vacated by the sudden retirement of Andy Scott, who was forced to hang up his boots back in April because of a heart condition.

"I've got Joe down as our left-sided winger for next season and I'm pleased he's chosen to sign for us," O's boss Martin Ling told the club's official website.

"Holding off the challenge of a club from the division above us to sign him shows the pulling power we've got and with decent left-footed players so hard to find, I'm glad he's going to be another piece in our jigsaw."

Scott, meanwhile, has returned to The O's after signing a one-year contract to become the club's new youth team coach this week.

He replaces Dean Smith, who moves up to become the club's new assistant manager.
