Luton Town's lead has been cut after a surprise 3-1 defeat at Port Vale.

Luton Town's lead at the top of League One has been cut to six points after a surprise 3-1 defeat at struggling Port Vale.

Mike Newell's side took an early lead when Kevin Foley struck after six minutes, but Dave Hibbert scored the first of his brace three minutes before the break to make it 1-1.

Hibbert then scored the eventual winner just before the hour mark and the three points were taken by the Potteries club when Lee Matthews scored Vale's third goal nine minutes from time.

Luton's defeat at Vale Park allowed second place Hull City to cut their lead at the summit, as first half strikes from Leon Cort and Nicky Barmby (pictured) gave The Tigers a 2-0 home win over Colchester United.

Tranmere Rovers failed to keep pace with Hull after being held to a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth.

Chesterfield finished the match with ten men after Caleb Folan was sent off for violent conduct on 64 minutes.

Huddersfield Town heaped more misery on managerless Oldham Athletic with a 2-1 win at The Galpharm Stadium.

A first half brace from Pawel Abbott gave The Terriers all three points, despite recent signing Guy Branston's second half reply for The Latics.
