League Two leaders Scunthorpe United are believed to have entered the race to sign striker Fredy Eastwood.

The 20-year-old is on loan at Southend United from non-league Grays Athletic.

The former West Ham United trainee has already attracted a host attention after bagging four goals in his first two games.

Now a clutch of clubs are looking to seal his signature, although he still has two years remaining on his contract at Grays - having joined them in the summer.

Queens Park Rangers, Doncaster Rovers and Colchester United are all believed to be monitoring the situation

"People seem to forget we are the club who resurrect these players' careers," said Grays' director of football Michael Woodward

"There's no doubt about the fact that Fredy is a natural goalscorer but we've invested a lot of time and effort in him.

"We are not frightened to use youngsters and it goes to show that, if they are hungry enough, you don't have to go out and buy 20 players.

"We all know what can happen in football. Let's just say we will suck it and see as they say in the trade."
