Luton extended their lead at the top of Coca-Cola League One, whilst Bristol City provided the performance of the day with a 5-0 home win over lowly Stockport.

The clash of the day was at Kenilworth Road, where first placed Luton Town took on second place Chesterfield. The Hatters, who won their first six League One games this season before drawing 0-0 at Hillsborough last weekend, took the lead just after half-time through Rowan Vine, and it proved to be the winner.

Steve Blatherwick helped Luton's cause when he was sent off 15 minutes from time. Chesterfield finished the game with nine men when Shane Nicholson was dismissed in the final minute.

Blackpool's miserable start to the season continued as they lost 2-1 away at Hull. Stuart Green drilled a right foot shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net on 14 minutes for the home side, before Scott Taylor equalised for the Seasiders thanks to an assist from Michael Flynn. Stuart Elliot scored the winner on 57 minutes. Hull moved up to third following the win.

Port Vale were hoping to keep the pressure on the top two, but were comprehensively beaten 3-0 by Huddersfield. Pawel Abbott scored a second half hat-trick for the Terriers. Huddersfield moved above Port Vale into fifth place. Port Vale dropped to sixth.

Wrexham beat Bradford 1-0 thanks to an early goal from Dennis Lawrence. He scored after two minutes from the edge of the box. Lee Crooks was sent off for Bradford in the 66th minute for a second bookable offence. Wrexham move up to seventh in the league.

Only one goal seperated Milton Keynes Dons and Doncaster. Mark Albrighton was the difference between the sides thanks to his 66th minute strike for the Rovers. MK Dons remain in the bottom four, whilst Doncaster move up to eighth.

Torquay and Brentford shared the points after a 2-2 draw. Stuart Wardley opened the scoring with a header from a Martin Phillips free-kick on 38 minutes, and the same players combined from another free-kick three minutes after the break to double Torquay's lead, with Wardley claiming his second headed goal of the afternoon. Brentford came back from 2-0 down with goals from Chris Hargreaves and Sam Sodje.

Barnsley and Tranmere fought out a scoreless draw at Oakwell. Tranmere go tenth, whilst Barnsley remain fifth bottom.

Peterborough got a precious win away at the County Ground against Swindon. Steve Jenkins scored the only goal in the 34th minute. Swindon slipped to 11th place from fifth, whilst The Posh move up to 14th.

Walsall and Sheffield Wednesday drew 1-1 at the Bescot Stadium. Glenn Whelan put Wednesday ahead in the 16th minute, and Michael Standing equalised for Walsall from close range five minutes before the break.

Bristol City thrashed Stockport 5-0 at Ashton Gate. Brian Tinnion scored for the home side on 11 minutes, before Christian Roberts made it two midway through the first half with a spectacular shot from 25 yards. Leroy Lita further extended the Robins' lead on the half hour mark. In the second half Paul Heffernan made it four on 79 minutes, before Lita got his second a minute later to complete the rout.

Oldham beat Hartlepool 3-2 at Boundary Park. John Eyre broke the deadlock just before half-time with a low shot from just inside the penalty area and Kevin Betsy made it two for the Latics on the hour mark with a shot from 25 yards. Chris Westwood pulled one back in the 78th minute for the Pool, but Jermaine Johnson restored his side's two goal advantage just four minutes later. Adam Griffin scored a last minute own goal, but it was too late for Hartlepool.

Bournemouth lost to Colchester 3-1 at home. Craig Fagan opened the scoring for Colchester after 10 minutes with a lob from 18 yards before Gareth Williams doubled the lead for the U's midway through the first half. Bournemouth did manage to half the deficit thanks to a Sam Stockley own goal in the 74th minute, but it proved to be a mere consolation, as Ben May made it 3-1 to the away side ten minutes from the end.
