Queens Park Rangers failed to significantly close the gap on Plymouth Argyle at the top of the table after being held 3-3 by Barnsley, with The Pilgrims playing Bristol City on Tuesday.

The R's had led late on 2-1 in Yorkshire, however the home side responded with two goals of their own before Paul Furlong rescued a last-gasp point with the last kick of the game.

Anthony Kay's own goal brought The R's level after Craig Ireland opened the scoring, however Furlong fired the visitors ahead after 74 minutes.

The goals looked like securing all three points, but Daniel Nardiello and David Murphy turned the game around before Furlong netted his second in a thrilling six-goal draw.

Brighton missed the opportunity to cement their play-off hopes after being held by Rushden & Diamonds in a goalless clash.

Swindon leapfrogged The Seagulls after a comfortable 3-0 away victory over Luton Town.

Rory Fallon was the hero for the visitors netting twice in the opening 21 minutes while Matthew Hewlett added a third before the break.

Hartlepool remain strong play-off contenders following a 2-1 away victory over Wrexham.

Goals from Darrell Clarke and Neil Danns put the visitors in control before Paul Barrett pulled one back, but that proved nothing more than a consolation.

Port Vale missed out on the chance to stay in touch with Hartlepool after a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Peterborough United.

Goals either side of Richard Logan and Tommy Williams put the home side in control before Andy Clarke added a third on the 67th minute.

Marc Bridge-Wilkinson did pull one back for The Potters, but it was too little too late for the visitors.

Bournemouth lost ground in their play-off chase after being held in a 2-2 home draw by Chesterfield.

Despite the dropped points, The Cherries will be happy to have avoided defeat after falling to an early two-goal deficit.

Mark Allott and Mark De Bolla had The Spireites in control before James Hayter and Derek Holmes rescued an unlikely point.

At the foot of the table Wycombe remain rooted after a 2-1 home defeat to Tranmere Rovers.

Eugene Dadi was the hero netting twice for the visitors, with Roger Johnson's late goal nothing more than a consolation.

Goals from John Murphy and Daniel Coid handed Blackpool a 2-0 victory over Grimsby Town, while Notts County and Sheffield Wednesday took a point apiece in a goalless draw.

Robert Clare earned Stockport County a home draw against Oldham Athletic after he equalised Will Haining's 49-second goal on 33 minutes.

Brentford emerged victorious 3-2 following a five-goal thriller with Colchester.

Jay Tabb had The Bees ahead, although Alan White levelled matters shortly after the break.

Ibrahima Sonko and Matt Harrold added further strikes for the home side before Craig Fagan completed the scoring for the visitors.
