Stoke City have turned down a £3m bid from Sevilla for midfielder Steven Nzonzi, according to Sky sources.
The offer is considered 'derisory' by the Premier League club.
Reports have suggested the Frenchman, who has 12 months remaining on his current deal with the Potters, is looking for a move this summer but Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes is still hopeful of persuading him to stay at the Britannia stadium.
Scholes told The Sentinel: "In terms of Steven, and other members of the squad, we are talking and are in constant touch with the representatives and the players themselves.
"Steven's a great footballer, and obviously player-of-the-year, and we would dearly love to keep him but we will see. We don't want to be losing players of quality like Steven, but that's not always in our hands."
Stoke boss Mark Hughes is also hoping to persuade Nzonzi to stay at the Britannia.
Nzonzi, who began his career with Amiens in France, joined Blackburn Rovers in 2009 for £500,000 before moving to Stoke in a £3m deal in 2012.
His performances earned him the club's player-of-the-year award last season.
