Transfer news: Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam would love to play abroad

Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam says he would "love the experience of playing abroad" after being linked with a move to Real Sociedad.

Adam, who has also previously been linked with Turkish club Galatasaray, has found himself out of the Stoke team in recent weeks but insists he is happy to remain at the Britannia Stadium for the time being.

He does admit, however, that a move overseas would appeal to him in the future.

"There's better weather than here," he told the Stoke Sentinel. "I would love the experience of playing abroad because it's certainly something different. Hopefully, more British players will go and do it."

Adam, whose agent is David Moyes' brother Kenny, is reported to have been watched by Real Sociedad assistant coach Billy McKinlay in Stoke's defeat to Burnley last month, but the 29-year-old is not paying too much attention to the speculation.

"It's going to happen when you have good players not playing and the opportunity for clubs to have a look at things (in the window)," he added.

"But there's nothing happening at the moment and I am happy to be here at Stoke."

Adam has also played down his clash with Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez at the weekend when he pulled the Chilean back by his neck.

"All that happened is that I tangled with him and then we got locked together," Adam said.

"When you come off the substitutes' bench you want to make an impact and emotions are high. But there was nothing in it and people make it worse than it was.

"Sanchez shook my hand a minute-and-a-half later, he wouldn't have done that if he'd had a problem.

"It's all just one of those things that happens with social media nowadays. It happens and then it goes worldwide because the Premier League goes worldwide."
