Speculation has suggested that Philipp Wollscheid could see a loan deal at Mainz cut short, but he is ignoring move talk.

The 25-year-old defender left parent club Bayer Leverkusen on a season-long agreement over the summer.

He has struggled to hold down a regular role at Mainz, but clubs across Europe are still reported to be interested in acquiring his services.

Southampton were said to be keen at one stage, and a fresh approach in January has been mooted.

Wollscheid admits to being aware of the rumours, but is paying little attention to them.

He is expecting to see out the 2014/15 campaign Mainz, while his contract in Leverkusen is due to run until 2017.

Wollscheid told kicker-Sportmagazin: “I am on loan at Mainz for the season and I am expecting to see out the season as a player of this club.

“Everything else is of little concern to me at the moment.”
