Derby have signed England Under-21 international goalkeeper Jack Butland on a one-month loan deal from Stoke, who have also let Andy Wilkinson join Millwall on a temporary basis.

Rams head coach Steve McClaren has made a move for Butland following an injury to first-choice keeper Lee Grant, who will be out for between four and six weeks after sustaining an ankle problem during Saturday's 3-0 win at Reading.

The 21-year-old is set to make his debut for Derby in their Sky Bet Championship fixture against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road on Tuesday night.

''We're extremely pleased to welcome Jack Butland to Derby County and I would like to extend our thanks to Stoke City for agreeing to let him join us on loan,'' McClaren told his club's official website.

"Jack is a promising young goalkeeper and after Lee Grant picked up an injury on Saturday, as a management team, we quickly set about identifying someone to come into the group.

"We know a lot about Jack and he is someone who Eric Steele (Derby's goalkeeping coach) rates very highly.''

Butland is behind Asmir Begovic and Thomas Sorensen in the pecking order at Stoke and City boss Mark Hughes has been keen to get him out on loan.

The England Under-21 captain will now get some valuable minutes under his belt in the second tier - as he has done during the last two seasons at Birmingham, Barnsley and more recently Leeds.

Butland joined Stoke from Birmingham in January 2013 for a fee of just over £3million. He has started three  Premier League matches for the Potters.

Wilkinson was being courted by Fulham and Birmingham, but is heading to Millwall.

Butland is certain to return to Stoke from his loan spell, but it remains to be seen if Millwall make Wilkinson a long-term offer in January.
