Stoke manager Mark Hughes admits he is keen to bolster his squad before the close of the transfer window on September 2.

The Potters went down 1-0 at Liverpool on the opening day of the Premier League season and, while the Welshman saw positives at Anfield, he is still making moves in the transfer market.

Hughes said: "We're in the market, we're active and we're working around the clock to try and conclude the deals that will improve us.

"We have to be patient with signing players. It has been frustrating but we're confident of having new players through the door soon.

"In terms of players coming in, it could go right down to the wire. Some deals go quickly and others take time."

Looking ahead to Saturday's clash with newly-promoted Crystal Palace, Hughes added: "Crystal Palace may be set up more defensively minded than Ian Holloway used to do at Blackpool. They're organised and resolute.

"Ian Holloway wears his heart on his sleeve and sometimes that gets him into trouble. But we all get passionate about our teams.

"Fans will be hoping to see a different approach in our play and hopefully they'll be encouraged by what they saw at Anfield last week. I'm really looking forward to my first home league game, it's going to be something special."
