Coach reluctantly admits PSV cannot block move

Coach Fred Rutten admits PSV Eindhoven are resigned to losing key defender Erik Pieters to Newcastle if the player chooses to leave. The Magpies saw star man Jose Enrique depart St James' Park for Liverpool on Friday, leaving them with a void to fill at left-back. Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has Dutch youngster Pieters in mind to fill Enrique's shoes, though PSV have made it clear they are reluctant to sell. However, Rutten concedes he is helpless to stop a deal going through if the 23-year-old decides he wants to join the Premier League side. "I would lie in the road to stop him leaving but I fear I cannot block his transfer to Newcastle," Rutten told the Daily Mail. "He is a brilliant defender; but, if it is right for him and the club, I cannot say no."
