Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni has revealed he plans to call-up Stoke striker Jon Walters to his squad.
27-year-old Walters has never won a call-up to the senior Republic of Ireland side having made one appearance for the Under 21s side and the B side.
Trapattoni is keen to add to his attacking options to help take the burden off Robbie Keane and Kevin Doyle and he is ready to introduce Walters into the fold.
However, Trapattoni will not bring Walters in immediately preferring to introduce the former Ipswich man during next month's friendly against Norway in Dublin.
"They (Russia) had three, four, five strikers," said Trapattoni. "We have Keane and Doyle. We look every Sunday for another striker.
"Maybe in November we will bring in Walters from Stoke."
Asked why he does not add Walters to his squad immediately, Trapattoni added: "It is normal to give men time. I will give them time and a chance.
"Usually they are shy. That is the nature of the player."
