Midfielder joins in training ahead of potential move

Lee Hendrie has started training with Reading with a view to signing a permanent deal at the Championship club. Former England international Hendrie is looking for a new club after he left Derby County at the end of last season. He had attracted interest from Aberdeen, Queens Park Rangers and Brighton & Hove Albion, where he finished last season on loan, but is now set to join Reading. The midfielder has linked up with the Royals and manager Brian McDermott is keen to give the 33-year-old a chance at the Madejski Stadium.

Hungry

"We have brought in Lee to have a look at him and he'll probably be in and around the squad for a little while," McDermott told the club's official website. "I know him from his Aston Villa days, but I watched him playing out wide for Sheffield United and that didn't seem to be his position. I believe he's a player who has got to be in amongst it in the middle of the pitch. "I'm a great believer in giving people opportunities and, having spoken to him a couple of times, I know how hungry he is. "He's a really bubbly character and he wants to play football - that's what he's about! So we'll see how things go."
