Stoke City goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen has claimed that his side need to improve if they are to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

Sorensen was beaten three times by Brazilian striker Robinho who claimed his first hat-trick in English football as Manchester City cruised to a 3-0 win at the City of Manchester Stadium on Sunday.

Sorensen told Danish Sporten.dk: "Robinho is a world class player. There's no question about that. Robinho had six great chances against me and I saved three of them."

The Danish stopper was not so complimentary about his team-mates' performances in dealing with the Brazilian and in front of goal.

He said: "We have played OK in several games but not managed to score. And if we don't score, it's not worth anything. That's the big difference between us and the teams above us in the league.

"When we don't manage to close a player like Robinho, then things do go wrong. A player like him should not be given that space to score, but that's just what we gave him."
